are the benefits of vibration plate exercise?
Medical
studies and user reports have shown vibration training to:
- raise metabolism
- build muscle strength
- induce lipolysis
(breakdown of fat)
- build bone mass
and bone mineral density
- elevate
HGH levels (human growth hormone)
- reduce cortisol
levels (stress hormone)
- reduce back &
joint pain
- increase range
of motion
- rehabilitate injuries
- elevate serotonin
levels ('happy' neurotransmitter)
- improve proprioception
- improve lymphatic
flow
- improve circulation
- decrease blood
pressure
- increase blood
oxygenation
- increase energy
levels
- increase flexibility
- encourage digestion
and colonic movement
- visibly improve
body tone
- strengthen core
muscles
- increase balance
and continence
- wash out lactic
acid and other acidic waste products from the body
This is a mighty list and yet it is by no means complete. User feedback tells us that the range of benefits goes on and in many cases surprise users by far exceeding their expectations - so what could you expect? To better understand how oscillating vibrational exercise will benefit you we have divided the above benefits into groups according to the physiological effect at their core.
Rapid and controlled involuntary muscle work
The Vibration Plate Pro effortlessly allows the user to perform rapid muscle contractions. Not only is the repetition rate very quick but as it is involuntary, a greater proportion of the muscle fibres are recruited. Furthermore, the engineering accuracy of the equipment ensures that the movements are equal, constant and safe. From this rapid muscle work the following benefits can be derived, depending upon how intensley the machine is used.
- burn calories
- develop muscle strength
- improve circulation
- improve lymphatic flow
- increase oxygenation of the blood
- decrease blood pressure
- assist detoxification
The reason that circulation and lymphatic flow are given a boost from muscle work is that each cycle of muscle contraction forces these fluids to move, similar to the way that the moving pistons of a car engine continuously move fuel and air through the system.
The principle of bone development is regulated by the strength of the muscles which mould the shape of the bones. Muscle activity stimulates bone building osteoblasts to add additional matter and expand the diameter of the bone.
Anabolic and catabolic responses
Research consistently demonstrates that vibration plate excercise effectively triggers anabolic and catabolic responses through the stimulation and release of key hormones. Anabolism is quite simply the construction of new molecules, and catabolism, its oppposite, is the breaking down of molecules.
Catabolic responses
- breakdown fat
- increase energy
- boost memory
Effective excercise, which vibration excercise most certainly is, will initiate aerobic cellular respiration, during which fat cells are broken down and reduced to Acetyl Coenzyme A. Acetyl-CoA is useful in many biochemical reactions and once available as a result of fat breakdown will trigger its various uses as required by your body. Perhaps the best known example of its use is as energy, and indeed through a cycle of oxidising chemical reactions fat does release energy. But Acetyl-CoA is also used to make the neurotransmitter acetylcholine (considered to be our memory neurotransmitter).
Anabolic responses
- increase levels of growth hormone
- build new muscle tissue
- increase levels of testosterone
- increase blood cell production
- protect against bone mineral depletion
- build new bone material
- increase levels of IGF-1
- stimulate the immune system
- promote lipolysis
Effective excercise stimulates our hormone secreting glands to release a multitude of positive chemicals. We all know that excercise releases endorphins which provide a sense of well being. Although testosterone is often associated steriotypically with male attributes, it is worth noting its key role in health and well being. Examples include increased energy, increased production of red blood cells, protection against osteoporosis and enhanced libido - all of which apply to both males and females. The reason that men secrete more testosterone then woman is simply due to their decreased sensitivity to it, but its importance on both genders is equal. Exercise is also a stimulator of growth hormone (GH) secretion. GH stimulates the multiplication of the primary cells in the development of bones. It also increases muscle mass, stimulates the immune system, promotes lipolysis and stimulates the production of IGF-1. IGF-1 is "insulin-like growth factor", so named because of its structural similarity to insulin although it is otherwise quite unrelated. Essentially, IGF-1 is a further growth-stimulating hormone which effects many tissues, and of particular interest is that it has stimulatory effects on osteoblast and chondrocyte activity to promote bone growth. The theraputic use of supplemented GH is somewhat controversial - ideally the body regulates itself, as externally induced GH excess has its risks. But what is worth noting is the number of conditions in which GH is indicated as treating. These include:
- multiple sclerosis
- fibromyalgia
- Crohn's disease
- ulcerative colitis
- obesity
The number of 'growth factor' hormones extends far beyond what is described above and the pathways to their formation are complex. What is useful to understand as an overview is that a great proportion of our biology is controlled hormonally, including bone formation. Osteoblasts, mentioned above, are responsible for bone formation. The counter-functioning-cells 'osteoclasts' work to resorb bone tissue and these are hormone regulated too. Osteoporosis is simply an inbalance between bone resorption and and bone formation, and ultimately it is hormone imbalances which are the greatest factor in this disease. Muscular activity stimulates bone building osteoblasts and positively effects hormone production, and thus it is no surprise that vibrational exercise is indicated in positive changes in user bone health.
Controlled side alternating bodyily displacement
The strictly side alternating movement pattern of the Vibration Plate Pro alternately raises one side of the body while displacing the other. The displacement effects the muscle contractions which are discussed in greater detail above. What's critical to understand about the pattern of movement and muscle work induced by the Vibration Plate Pro machine is that the same two muscles on either side of your body are never activated simultaneously. This means that the load on the body of this type of movement is barely more then when standing, and is actually less than when walking. In strong contrast is the vertical movement of other vibration machines. With a vertical movement muscles on both sides of the body are contracted simultaneously causing compression. In fact, the load on the body is the same a when jumping - a force of around 6 times your body weight, and nearly 5 times greater force then when using our oscillating platform. Therefore the following benefits are strictly associated with oscillating, or 'pivotal' vibration equipment:
- reduce back and joint pain
- increase range of motion
- rehabilitate injuries
- increase flexibility
- improve proprioception
- strengthen core muscles
- support development of proper gait
- encourage digestion and colonic movement
- increase balance and continence
- flush stagnant fluids from the joints
"One
of the best low impact, passive aggressive exercises for folks who
do not move their bodies or cannot move their bodies daily because
of health challenges, is the use of a whole body vibrational machine.
A whole body vibrational machine will contract, expand and exercise
every cell in the body simultaneously from 1 to 50 times per second
and thus move acidic waste products across the cell membranes and
out into the extracellular fluids to be removed by perspiration
or urination. When you move the acidity out of the cells and tissues
you prevent and reverse the conditions of fibromyalgia and scleroderma."
